Utah was admitted to the Union as America's 45th state on January 4th, 1896. Utah has a very diverse landscape that includes the Rocky Mountains and the Great Salt Lake to the north and red rock cliffs and huge sand dunes in the southern part of the state. The varying terrain makes Utah a true recreational paradise. Five national parks, seven national monuments, a national historic site and two national recreation areas draw millions of visitors to the state each year. Beautiful ski resorts and the famed Utah powder combine to make some of the best skiing in the world. Salt Lake City is a center for the arts with art galleries, plays and operas. Historic sites like to Golden Spike National Historic Site are scattered throughout the state. So whatever you are looking for, whether it be a steep mountain to climb, a quiet lake to fish, or a rousing performance at the theater, you can find it in Utah.
